Given the growing migratory flow in the world, the United Nations General Assembly declared December 18 as International Migrants Day in order to make visible the challenges and adversities faced by migrants. The commemoration of this day allows societies to become aware of the social problems suffered by migrants, displaced persons, and refugees throughout the world.

The migration process promotes dignity since the main reason people migrate is the hope they have of improving their quality of life and overcoming the economic and social inequalities they faced in their countries of origin. It also influences the fact that the countries where migrants arrive require labor that sometimes they cannot cover with their local residents, which is why migrants drive the economic growth of the countries that receive them. International Migrants Day is an excellent opportunity for citizens, community leaders, and governments to reaffirm their commitment to maintaining multicultural societies that offer opportunities and guarantee a decent life for all human beings, regardless of their origin.
La Isla Magazine joins this celebration giving fraternal recognition to those who have undertaken a life project abroad. We especially thank our beloved Hispanic Community residing in the United States for all the contributions and positive impacts they generate in our community.
Happy Migrant’s Day!
