Carlos Ahumada is a Latin American who has Hispanic love in his blood. He was born in Mendoza, Argentina but more than 20 years ago he settled in the United States in the Lowcountry region, where he had the opportunity to integrate into North American society, finding refuge, a way of living, and building a career in a sport appreciated by many and practiced by few: golf. For Carlos, golf is more than just an interesting sport because the player’s competitiveness is mostly against his own ego; in golf, success depends on the decisions you make and their respective consequences. For this reason, he considers that in golf a wonderful scenario is established compared to other sports: at the end of the day the athlete does the best he can and gets what he deserves according to the decisions he made.

Carlos belongs to the renowned organization First Tee, located at 151 Gumtree Rd Hilton Head Island. The main objective of this organization is to give children and young people the opportunity to develop sports and social skills through the practice of golf. In 2010, Carlos took an initiative that, after much effort and dedication, today has materialized in a free golf training program for Spanish-speaking children and youth. This program will allow them to learn the sport and also to form their citizen values: rules of sport such as behavior, honesty, and respect are essential for life itself. Golf, according to Carlos, is an alternative sport that has been overshadowed by other types of sports such as Soccer and for this reason, not many know about it, however, it is a special invitation for children and young people in the Hispanic Community to experience it and perhaps they will find a hidden gift that allows them to exalt their greatest talents.
Both Carlos and us, La Isla Magazine, extend the invitation to all our beloved Hispanic Communities to enroll their children in this program. First Tee is a beautiful place dedicated to the comprehensive development of children and young people, complying with all quality and safety standards, so that families can have peace of mind about the well-being of their children. As we have mentioned before, this is a totally free program in which the necessary equipment for the practice of a sport will be provided. Carlos’ greatest dream is to share with the Hispanic Community his enthusiasm for a sport that opens many opportunities and allows mental and spiritual growth, just as he has experienced in his practice as a golfer.
